Transportation department employees are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of trains and the movement of customer freight from one destination to another. Generally, jobs in the Transportation department do not require railroad experience; CSX provides training. Union membership is required. Select a job description below to learn more.
Transportation positions include:
Freight Conductor: Supervise train crews on a freight train and coordinate switch engine crews. Place cars to facilitate loading and unloading and the makeup and breakdown of trains in a rail yard, industrial plant or similar locations. See description
Longshoreman: Operate and maintain mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic machinery and equipment on coal and ore docks. See description
Train Dispatcher: Direct and coordinate the safe movement of railroad traffic on a specified territory from a central and/or regional location. See description
