Customer Service Bulletin - Hurricane Sandy Update

October 29, 2012

CSX’s network from Richmond, Va., north to Albany, N.Y., has been closed due to Hurricane Sandy in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. The closure includes Boston, Mass., and extends as far west as Brunswick, Md.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to have widespread impacts, including high winds, heavy rain and damaging storm surge. Flooding is likely in coastal and low-lying areas. With power outages expected across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, generators have been staged, and rock ballast and other materials are positioned to address any infrastructure damage.

Customers are urged to secure rail cars in their facilities on high ground, away from any potential flood-impacted areas. Most passenger and commuter train operations have been suspended in the affected areas, and passengers are advised to check with those agencies for any updates.

A network assessment will be conducted in the impacted areas as soon as it safe to do so. However, CSX is estimating at least 72 hours of delay on freight traffic moving through the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Further information will be communicated as conditions warrant.

For more information on shipments, customers can contact the CSX Customer Service Center via ShipCSX’s Problem Resolution Tool or by calling 1-877-ShipCSX (1-877-744-7279), prompt #5, then prompt #6. Intermodal customers should call 1-800-542-2754, prompt #2.
