CSX is closely monitoring recent developments concerning the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) temporary suspension of operations at three key U.S./Mexico international railway crossing bridges, which commenced on December 18. This action was taken in response to a sharp increase in migrant activity and has necessitated a redirection of CBP staff to assist U.S. Border Patrol with processing and border security.
The affected railway crossings are on Union Pacific and BNSF lines and include one bridge at Piedras Negras, Mexico/Eagle Pass, Texas (connecting with UP’s Eagle Pass Subdivision), and two at Ciudad Juarez/El Paso (one connects with UP’s Valentine and Lordsburg Subdivisions, the other with BNSF’s El Paso Subdivision). In addition, Ferromex (FXE) railroad, a carrier in Mexico, is also experiencing an embargo at Eagle Pass and El Paso.
CSX is maintaining continuous communication with other railroads to promptly address any potential changes that may impact rail traffic, and we will provide updates should the situation warrant.
