CSX Customer Advisory - UPDATE: Winter Storm Jonas Impact

January 23, 2016

Please be advised that Winter Storm Jonas is impacting several regions of CSX, from the Great Lakes to the mid-Atlantic and Southeast. In the most heavily storm-impacted regions, trains are being held – some due to road conditions preventing crews to on-duty points, and others pending improved weather.  The associated weather conditions are affecting the CSX network in the following areas:

  • Huntington Division:  Heavy snow across the division with 8 -24” on the ground across various subdivisions with the New River subdivision currently under two feet of snow.
  • Richmond, VA:  Trains being held or moving slowly due to snow.
  • Washington, D.C./Baltimore:  Continuing to experience the heaviest snow fall amounts and expected to move toward New York City this afternoon.
  • Nashville Terminal:  Trains are staged at surrounding terminals pending improved weather. The heavy snow has passed with Casky Yard receiving the heaviest accumulation of 8-12” on the ground and 5-8” over the rest of the division as flurries continue.
  • Florence Division:  Snow and freezing temperatures across the division.
  • Atlanta Division:  Rain, sleet, snowy mixture across the division.  Light snow between Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tenn., and between Atlanta and Greenwood, S.C., with icy road conditions near Greenwood.
  • Great Lakes Division:  Light snow in Cleveland and extending across the Erie West Subdivision with 1-2” forecasted.
  • Louisville Division:  Snow has subsided leaving 5-7” of snow on the ground in Louisville and 1-3” in Cincinnati.  Blowing snow with drifts up to three feet deep in the Louisville area are affecting normal operations on the Mainline and Texas subdivisions.

Customers should expect delays up to 48 hours on freight moving through these impacted areas. Recovery crews are working behind the storm to restore full service and make any infrastructure or equipment repairs that may be necessary. CSX continues to work with customers to provide the latest ETA and routing information to best accommodate requests and mitigate delays as a result of the storm. We will continue to monitor storm conditions and provide further updates as warranted.
