CSX is responding to operational impacts from a destructive line of severe storms and tornadoes that moved through the Chicago metropolitan area and Northwest Indiana today, causing widespread damage and power outages across the region.
The severe weather is affecting CSX operations on the Monon and Garrett subdivisions. In advance of the storms, trains in affected areas were held in accordance with wind-related safety protocols.
As the storm system continues moving east, our Engineering teams are actively assessing track and infrastructure conditions and working to clear storm-related obstructions. Severe thunderstorm and flood watches remain in effect, and additional weather-related impacts are possible.
Customers with shipments moving through the affected region should expect delays while recovery efforts continue. We will restore normal train operations as conditions permit and once routes are confirmed safe for movement.
We will continue to provide updates as needed. For the latest network information, please refer to CSX Customer Advisories and Intermodal Real-Time Service Advisories. If your facility experiences a closure or changes in local service needs because of the severe weather, please notify your CSX representative as soon as possible so we can coordinate support and adjust service plans accordingly.
For assistance with shipment inquiries, contact the CSX Customer Solutions team at 1-877-ShipCSX (1-877-744-7279).
