CSX Customer Advisory: Livingston, Ky. Derailment May Cause Delays

October 22, 2023

Please be advised that trains and shipments on the Cincinnati/Corbin subdivision in Kentucky can expect temporary delays due to a train derailment that occurred north of Livingston on Wednesday, Nov. 22. CSX crews are working tirelessly to restore operations safely and efficiently. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this period.

At CSX, safety remains our greatest priority. The incident involved 16 railcars, two of which were carrying molten sulphur. These sulphur cars lost some of their content, resulting in a fire that has now been successfully extinguished. We want to assure you that our hazardous-material experts have been working closely with local firefighters and other authorities to implement environmental protective measures effectively.

A precautionary evacuation was carried out by the local fire department for residents nearby, and CSX has coordinated resources to support those affected. CSX has established a community outreach hotline for any inquiries or assistance needed. We've also partnered with local businesses, including restaurants, hotels and Dollar Tree to provide food, lodging, and other necessities at our company’s expense. CSX is also serving Thanksgiving dinner today at various locations in a neighboring town.

Restoring service on the line may take several days. CSX is committed to keeping you informed and will continue to provide updates as warranted.
