Section of CSX Main Line to Undergo Rehabilitation

Released: Jun 5, 2008

This summer, CSXT Engineering forces will conduct their annual rehabilitation of a portion of CSXT's main line along coal routes at the center of the railroad's network. Work will begin on Monday, June 30, and finish Monday afternoon, July 7. Service will resume on Tuesday morning, July 8.

Lines on CSXT's Kingsport, Blue Ridge, Spartanburg, Charlotte, Terrell and CN&L subdivisions will be shut down for the duration of the project. If performed under the normal train curfew process, the project would take an estimated 27 weeks with significant service disruptions along the route.

Most line haul traffic will be rerouted via other railroads and gateways during this project, which may result in a 24- to 48-hour increase in transit time. Sales representatives and local trainmasters are now working with customers to minimize disruptions and develop service plans for the shutdown.

During this shutdown, 450 Engineering workers will install more than 16 track miles of rail and 37,103 ties. They will surface 25 track miles on the Kingsport subdivision. In addition, they will be upgrading four tunnels on the Kingsport subdivision and five bridges on the Kingsport and Blue Ridge subdivisions.

The following is a more detailed list of the rail segments involved in the project:
