One Track Re-Opened in Northwest Indiana

January 8, 2012 – 11:00 a.m. – One track has been re-opened in Northwest Indiana near Portage, and trains have resumed operating slowly through the site of a derailment between Chicago and Garrett, Indiana. Workers continue to make repairs on the second track, which is expected to re-open later today.

However, customers with traffic over this line should continue to expect 24-36 hours of delay until normal operations can be restored. Some traffic has been re-routed since the derailment occurred on Friday afternoon.

Trains moving between Chicago and Grand Rapids, Michigan are not impacted as the derailment is east of Porter, Indiana.
