CSX Walbridge Yard Enhancements Boost Efficiency and Capacity

September 10, 2025 – Walbridge Yard in Ohio, one of CSX’s largest flat switching yards, has undergone significant infrastructure improvements to enhance operations.
 
The yard, which processes approximately 1,000 railcars daily, largely supports the automotive industry across the Great Lakes East region. CSX recently completed the installation of 5,500 new ties in the eastbound segment of the yard. Additionally, 20,000 ties were replaced on the main line from Ironville to Walbridge, further strengthening the network.
 
“We’ve also extended several tracks in the arrival yard to improve efficiency,” said Scott Riddle, Assistant Superintendent at Walbridge Yard. “The upgrades, including the elimination of an S-curve and the extension of three tracks, are designed to increase our capabilities and overall production at the terminal.”
 
These investments in infrastructure, including new switches and raised leads, are part of CSX’s commitment to improving operational performance and supporting the industries that rely on its network.
