CSX Receives Silver Anthem Award for Pride in Service Community Initiative

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – January 31, 2024 – CSX has been chosen as a silver winner in the 3rd Annual Anthem Awards honoring the purpose and mission-driven work of people, companies and organizations worldwide that inspire others to take action in their communities.

CSX was named a silver winner in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Special Workplace Initiative category for its Pride in Service signature community investment initiative. Launched in 2018, CSX Pride in Service has benefitted more than 1 million members of the military and first responders and their families.

Through corporate financial support and the donations and volunteer hours contributed by employees, CSX partners with five leading non-profit agencies — Blue Star Families, First Responders Children’s Foundation, Operation Gratitude, Operation Homefront and Wounded Warrior Project — to support the military community across all 50 states and in 40 countries.

The Pride in Service initiative has supported the gifting of more than 3.7 million items of gratitude and sponsored nearly 2,700 events. In addition, 694 scholarships have been given and nearly 20,000 grants have been distributed. The initiative has also funded important research into the experiences and challenges of military families.

“It’s a great honor to be selected for an Anthem Award, not only because it recognizes the positive impact Pride in Service is having in the military and first responder communities, but also because it’s a tribute to the hard work and thousands of hours our employees have contributed to Pride in Service events,” said Joe Hinrichs, CSX president and chief executive officer.

The Anthem Awards Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Special Workplace Initiative category centered on programs that have a strategic approach to their social impact efforts, including effective measurement and reporting tactics, corporate governance, and matching contributions opportunities. The 2024 competition received over 2,000 entries from more than 30 countries worldwide.

“The work that we have received in the 3rd Annual Anthem Awards is game-changing,” said Patricia McLoughlin, Anthem Awards general manager. “The Anthem Community is a bright light in our uncertain world.”

The Anthem Award is the latest of multiple recognitions CSX has received for its community service work. Pride in Service received a 2020 Gold Halo Award for Employee Engagement from the Engage for Good organization, and the initiative has contributed to CSX being selected for other awards that recognize companies for their environmental, social and governance performance.
