CSX Investments Support Continued Growth at Chambersburg Intermodal Terminal

October 22, 2026 – CSX continues to invest in its Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Intermodal Terminal as freight volumes grow and demand for reliable intermodal service increases.

Volume at the terminal has risen from approximately 159,000 units in 2023 to nearly 188,000 in 2024 and 192,000 in 2025.

To support that growth, CSX added a rubber-tired gantry crane and two reach stackers in 2025, along with expanded parking for containers, chassis and employees. An expansion of the terminal’s maintenance facility is also underway, while CSX evaluates opportunities to further expand the terminal.

The investments complement the work of the Chambersburg team, which has operated injury-free since 2012. The milestone reflects a strong focus on coordination, communication and safe operations as activity at the terminal continues to grow.
