CSX Honors U.S. Army's 250th Anniversary with Historic Military Equipment Transport

June 19, 2025 – CSX proudly supported the U.S. Army in commemorating its 250th anniversary, playing a critical role in transporting nearly 100 pieces of military equipment to Washington, D.C., for the milestone celebration and parade held on Saturday, June 14. The operation exemplified CSX's dedication to serving the armed forces and underscored the essential role of railroads in moving military assets.

The historic rail transport, spanning approximately 981 miles from Birmingham, Alabama, to the nation’s capital, included Abrams Main Battle Tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Stryker Infantry Carriers, and Paladin Howitzers. Covering six states over 55 hours with the help of nine crews, the convoy weighed a total of 4,911 tons, the equivalent of 982 elephants. The equipment was carefully unloaded at two CSX facilities, Benning Yard in Washington, D.C., and the TDSI facility in Jessup, Maryland.

CSX’s contribution to the mission included its 1776 Commemorative Locomotive, adorned as a tribute to the five branches of the military, and the ONE CSX locomotive, symbolizing the company’s unity and pride in its longstanding partnership with the armed services.

“Our team was honored to support this historic operation celebrating the Army’s 250-year legacy of service to our nation,” said Joe Hinrichs, president and CEO of CSX. “The U.S. Army is a valued partner, and we take pride in employing veterans and active military members whose dedication and leadership inspire us. We remain committed to supporting those who serve and their families.”

The broader celebration, marking the founding of the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, featured a parade and other commemorative activities in Washington, D.C. The military equipment’s rail transport, which began at Fort Cavazos in Texas, highlighted the efficiency and vital role of rail in supporting America’s armed forces.
