CSX Empowers Wounded Veterans through Drone Training Program

May 2, 2024 – CSX hosted a hands-on drone training session for over 25 wounded veterans from across the country representing the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) at its Moncrief Yard in Jacksonville, Fla., on April 30. The event was part of an effort to equip veterans with valuable skills for their post-military careers.

The drone training falls under CSX's Pride in Service community investment initiative, underscoring the company's commitment to supporting U.S. military, veterans, first responders and their families. The training is a component of WWP's Warriors to Work program, facilitating job training and skills development for transitioning warriors. With CSX's backing, veterans receive expert instruction in remote drone planning and flying techniques.

“This is a learning program where we can teach important skills related to drones, and give back to our veterans; and then create the talent pool that CSX needs for the future as we continue to grow and expand this technology,” said Steve Fortune, CSX Executive Vice President and Chief Digital and Technology Officer.

The integration of drones into CSX's operations exemplifies the company's dedication to enhancing safety and efficiency in rail transportation. With a fleet of over 200 drones operated by 400 pilots, CSX utilizes this technology for various tasks, including rail inspection, yard mapping and disaster response. This innovative approach not only boosts operational efficiency but also elevates workplace safety standards and improves customer service.

By investing in cutting-edge technology and training skilled individuals, such as military veterans, CSX remains at the forefront of the rail industry, driving innovation while supporting those who have served our country.
