CSX Advances Freight Efficiency with SD-70 Locomotive Rebuild Program

March 18, 2025 — CSX is modernizing its fleet with the comprehensive SD-70 locomotive rebuild program, aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of freight rail operations. The program, which spans a 12-week process for each locomotive, involves overhauling engines, replacing critical components, and delivering a fully revitalized locomotive ready for service.

To date, CSX teams have rebuilt just over 120 locomotives, with more on the horizon. The initiative underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence, ensuring that freight services are reliable and adaptable to the evolving needs of customers.
