Service Bulletin - New Orleans Delays

Released: Dec 1, 2009

On Monday, an eastbound Union Pacific train derailed on the Huey P. Long Bridge blocking access to all rail traffic on this double-tracked corridor between the eastern and western rail carriers. CSX's customers whose cars were involved in the derailment have been notified. One mainline has re-opened and the second is scheduled to re-open this evening. We expect a return to normal service levels across the bridge by Thursday.

Unfortunately, a weather system in the area has forced authorities to issue a Coastal Flood Watch and, as a precaution, the flood gates around New Orleans may be closed this evening if water levels indicate a risk of flooding. If this happens, it will cause delays on east and westbound traffic interchanging between CSX and the KCS Railroad and the New Orleans Public Belt (NOPB).

We will continue to monitor both of these situations and provide updates when more information is available.

If you have questions about specific shipments moving through New Orleans, please contact CSX's Customer Service Center via the ShipCSX Problem Resolution Tool, or by calling 1-877-ShipCSX (1-877-744-7279), prompt 5, then prompt 6.
