March 27, 2012 – The mainline near Hoover, Ala., just south of Birmingham, is expected to re-open this evening. Those tracks, between LaGrange, Ga., and Birmingham, were closed yesterday after a CSX train struck a landslide.

Crews worked through the night to remove rock and soil and make track repairs. No one was injured in the landslide and collision that blocked the mainline on CSX’s Lineville Subdivision.

Delays of 24-48 hours are expected on shipments over that line until normal operations resume.
