March 26, 2012 – A train struck a landslide early today, derailing a locomotive and some empty hopper cars at Hoover, Ala., just south of Birmingham. No one was injured in the incident that has blocked the mainline on the Lineville Subdivision.

Work equipment and personnel are on site, and an update will be provided on efforts to clear the line. The blockage is between LaGrange, Ga., and Birmingham, and is expected to cause delays of 24-48 hours to trains that operate over that route.
