Shipment Sizes:
- Unit trains and trainload shipments
The most efficient pipeline to move your coal is by unit train consisting entirely of your product. Shipments in dedicated trainload quantities seamlessly move coal from the mine load out facilities to receiver various destinations. This is the most cost effective way to transport your coal.
- Single-car movements
Services can be tailored to meet the individual needs of less-than-trainload shippers. Single cars or blocks of cars are readily managed, though unit train shipments are the preferred and most cost effective configuration.

CSX owns and operates three coal piers to provide expert coal handling to terminal facilities located on the East Coast, Great Lakes and Ohio River system. Our terminal and pier facilities are located at Baltimore, Md.; Toledo, Ohio, and Maysville, Ky., and we also partner with third-party terminals and provide service to:
