CSX Updates Impact of Flooding

September 11, 2011 – 1:15 p.m. Eastern – CSX’s major rail lines in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions are beginning to operate normally following localized and occasionally severe flooding. However, a significant backlog of traffic continues to be processed, and some delays should be expected for the next few days.

Heavy rainfall over the last several days, combined with water-saturated ground and overflowing waterways, interrupted service on many lines. Yesterday, utility lines sagged across CSX’s mainline in upstate New York at Amsterdam, stopping train traffic for several hours until utility crews could make repairs. Those tracks have re-opened, along with CSX’s Washington, D.C.-Richmond, Va., line following repairs of a washout.

The company’s Customer Service Center is continuing to coordinate with affected shippers and receivers. Customers should contact the Customer Service Center via ShipCSX’s Problem Resolution tool or by calling 1-877-SHIPCSX, prompts 5, then 6.
