CSX Transportation's Cindy Sanborn Named as a "Woman Worth Watching"

Jacksonville, Fla., – September 28, 2010 – CSX Transportation’s vice president and chief transportation officer Cindy M. Sanborn has been recognized as a “Woman Worth Watching” by Profiles in Diversity Journal magazine.

“Cindy Sanborn is a veteran railroader who has demonstrated strong leadership and delivered throughout her career at CSX,” said David Brown, CSX Transportation’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.  “Developing and sustaining a strong, diverse organization is essential to achieving our business objectives. Cindy is a leader in the company who is committed to attracting and retaining top people, and the excellent results that come from that approach.”

Sanborn is the first woman to hold the position of chief transportation officer at CSX. She joined CSX twenty three years ago as a transportation analyst and now oversees the transportation operations for the company’s 21,000 mile network.

In the magazine, Sanborn and her fellow featured executives share their wisdom through personal essays, on topics such as leadership, balancing work and family, and advice for future executives. In her essay, Sanborn notes the importance of working for a company whose corporate culture aligns with her personal values. She writes, “How you get where you’re going is as important as the destination.  Upholding an ethical standard is the right way to get results, and living this tenet has helped my career progress in a meaningful way.”

Profiles in Diversity Journal’s 2010 9th Annual Women Worth Watching® Issue features 124 female executives whose organizations have nominated them as exemplary leaders.  Read Sanborn’s essay.
