CSX Transportation Statement - Rosedale, Md., 5-29

May 29, 2013

CSX’s Community Outreach Center at a Rosedale, Md., hotel remained open today to work with residents affected by yesterday’s derailment and to assist property owners with damage. The company wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the emergency responders, the officials and the members of the community who have responded to the scene or been impacted by the accident.  The company and its employees remain fully committed to safety and restoration efforts.

The CSX Community Outreach Center is set up at the Country Inn & Suites Harbour Meeting Room, 8825 Yellow Brick Road, Rosedale, and CSX also has personnel working in and around the derailment site. Those requiring assistance or information should contact CSX at the Community Outreach Center or by calling 1-877-TELL-CSX (1-877-835-5279).

CSX environmental experts continued to work with the Maryland Department of Environment, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,  and other agencies to clean up products released in the derailment. Air, water and soil sampling was established quickly yesterday, and all results are being shared with public agencies.

Meanwhile, CSX is prepared to begin working on repairing the tracks once the NTSB releases the scene. Customers are being advised to expect 24-36 hour delays on rail traffic passing through the area, and some freight is being re-routed around the site.

The driver of a truck that collided with the train before the derailment remained hospitalized and the two members of the CSX train crew were not injured.
