As of 2 p.m., CSX expects that the propane fire will be extinguished late this evening and, following approval from NTSB and FRA, recovery operations will begin at the site of the derailment.

CSX has begun removing the rail cars not affected by the derailment from the site. Cars will be transported to rail yards north and south of the site.

The evacuation order remains in place to continue to protect the public from the propane and sulfur fires. At this time there is no firm estimate of when residents will be allowed to return to their homes.

To support displaced residents’ needs, CSX has extended the operating hours of two community outreach centers until 10 p.m. and we continue to answer questions through the toll-free incident response line: 1-800-331-4031. Those efforts will continue until all residents have been returned to their homes.

In addition, CSX continues to work with residents to retrieve pets and essential medications that were left behind during the evacuation. Several dozen family pets have been reunited with their families through this effort.

CSX has created a webpage, response.csx.com, where the public can find information about the community outreach centers, the latest status of the recovery and additional helpful resources.

CSX appreciates the support of the American Red Cross, local first responders, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the community in caring for the needs of residents displaced by this incident.
