CSX Names New Tax and Audit Leaders

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – April 9, 2015 – CSX (NYSE: CSX) today announced the appointment of new leaders of its tax and internal audit functions.

William “Rusty” Russell has been named vice president-tax, and Bryan Rhode will succeed Russell as vice president-internal audit. Russell will report to Fredrik Eliasson, executive vice president and chief financial officer, and Rhode will report to Ellen Fitzsimmons, executive vice president-law and public affairs. The appointments are effective July 1.

“We welcome Rusty back to the tax team, where he began his CSX career,” Eliasson said. “He has provided successful leadership there and in internal audit, where he has helped the company broadly employ leading practices that help assure the highest standards and compliance.”

Rhode, who will lead the internal audit team, joined CSX after substantial public service including as the Secretary of Public Safety for the Commonwealth of Virginia and as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.  He currently serves as CSX’s regional vice president-state government and community affairs, with responsibility for the Mid-Atlantic region.

“Bryan’s background and leadership capabilities make him ideally suited to lead an exceptional team as it continuously enhances the high level of internal audit and compliance services that are central to CSX’s values and business success,” Fitzsimmons said. 

Russell joined CSX in 1996 and has served in senior leadership positions within the finance and internal audit organizations.  Previously, Russell was assistant vice president-tax compliance. He is a Certified Public Accountant who began his career with Price Waterhouse and AT&T before joining CSX. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from West Virginia University.

Rhode joined CSX in 2014. In addition to having served as Virginia’s Secretary and, before that, Deputy Secretary, of Public Safety, he was also Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. He is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, the University of Virginia School of Law, and the London School of Economics. Following military service, Rhode worked in both private and public law practices.
