CSX Named a Top Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs

Ranks Highest Among Class I Railroads

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – November 11, 2010 – G.I. Jobs has recognized CSX Corporation as number three on its 2011 Top 100 Military Friendly Employers list, and highest among railroads. The eighth-annual list acknowledges employers that actively pursue the employment of America’s servicemen and women.

“We are committed to hiring and developing America’s veterans,” said Michael Ward, CSX chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Their superior training, experience in logistics and ability to work safely in demanding, team-based environments make them uniquely qualified for railroading.”

Nearly one in five CSX employees has served in the military and many continue to hold reserve or guard status. Additionally, CSX supports the Jacksonville, Florida-based Wounded Warrior Project, which provides programs and services for injured service members to aid their transition from active duty to civilian lives.

The military remains among CSX’s most valued customers, and the company serves more U.S. military installations than any other Class I railroad. CSX regularly transports military equipment – more than 7,000 carloads already this year – in support of training exercises, relief efforts, and overseas deployments.

The G.I. Jobs’ annual ranking is drawn from a sample of 5,000 companies whose annual revenues exceed $500 million. Companies are evaluated on the strength of their military recruiting efforts, the percentage of employees who have previously served in the military, and the quality of policies aimed at National Guard and reserve service members. For example, CSX provides salary and benefits continuation to employees called to active duty.
