CSX Introduces Industry-First Technology to Strengthen Emergency Response

September 24, 2026 – CSX has enhanced the capabilities of its Public Safety Coordination Center (PSCC) with new technology that allows callers to securely share real-time location information and live video during emergencies, making CSX the first railroad to deploy this type of system.

“We’re a leader in this space, and this technology truly changes how we respond,” said Chris Bennett, director of Public Safety and Infrastructure Protection at CSX. “When we can immediately see where someone is and what they’re seeing, we eliminate guesswork, reduce stress for our operators, and enable faster, safer emergency response across the CSX network.”

The PSCC serves as the critical link between CSX and public safety agencies, coordinating resources and response efforts when incidents are reported by employees, customers, or members of the community. One of the greatest challenges during emergency calls is determining a caller’s exact location, particularly when they are unfamiliar with their surroundings.

The new technology helps solve that challenge by enabling PSCC operators to quickly identify a caller’s location and send a secure link that allows live video sharing from the scene. Operators can also instantly replay call recordings, translate multiple languages, and verify critical information while a call is still in progress. These capabilities provide a clearer understanding of unfolding situations and help accelerate response times.

By providing better situational awareness and more accurate information, the system helps emergency responders make informed decisions when every second matters. The enhancement also improves coordination between CSX and local first responders, strengthening the company’s ability to support the communities it serves.

With this investment in advanced technology, CSX continues to strengthen rail safety while helping protect employees, customers, and communities across its network.
