Tom Tisa Receives Top Honor from North American Rail Shippers Association

May 31, 2022 – Tom Tisa, CSX head of Business Development, has been honored by the North American Rail Shippers Association (NARS) with the organization’s Person of the Year Award for 2022.

A long-serving member of the NARS Board of Directors and its president for the past two years, Tom was recognized for his outstanding leadership during a challenging period for NARS and the entire shipping industry.

“Tom has shown unwavering support for NARS through an incredibly challenging time brought about by the global pandemic,” said Bruce Mann, director of freight mobility for Port Houston and the current NARS president. “He has been a steady and positive force within our organization and the industry as a whole.”

Tom joined CSX in 2019 as head of Marketing and Strategic Development and was promoted to his current position in 2020. As head of Business Development, he has spearheaded a vital component of CSX’s growth strategy by promoting the company’s Select Sites program and the supply chain advantages of safe, reliable and environmentally friendly rail service.

Tom started his career in marketing with Santa Fe Railway in 1989 and joined Illinois Central in 1995. After IC was acquired by Canadian National in 1999, he worked in business development prior to coming to CSX.

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He has been involved in service to many industry organizations in addition to NARS. He was a board member for Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS) and past president of Traffic Club of Chicago.

NARS presented the Person of the Year Award to Tom at its recent annual meeting in Chicago.
