CSX Operations Update on Falmouth Derailment – No Hazardous Materials Leak

August 10, 2016 – 4:00 p.m.

CSX and area first responders continue their work at the site of this morning’s CSX train derailment near Woodson Street in Falmouth, KY. Together with local hazardous materials teams, CSX experts inspected the derailed cars and confirmed that 24 cars derailed, including four loaded hazardous materials cars containing sulfuric acid. There were no hazardous materials released. CSX and Falmouth officials are developing the next phase of an action plan that protects public safety and minimizes the impact to the community and environment. At this time, it is premature to speculate about the timing of cleanup conclusion.

CSX appreciates the patience of Falmouth residents as the derailment is cleaned up as quickly as is safely possible. CSX is working with the City and first responders to provide support for the residents who are affected by this derailment. Affected residents can visit the CSX Community Outreach Center at the Pendleton County High School auditorium lobby at 2525 US 27 North in Falmouth, or call 1-800-331-4031.

CSX appreciates the swift and professional response from Pendleton County and the Falmouth Fire Department.

The train was transporting 76 loaded cars, some of which are hazardous materials, and 49 empty cars en route from Cincinnati, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation. We will continue to provide more information as it is confirmed.
