August 10, 2016 – 9:15 p.m.

CSX encourages residents affected by the derailment to visit the Community Outreach Center at the Pendleton County High School Auditorium Lobby at 2525 US 27 North. The hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. CSX will reimburse residents for out-of-pocket expenses, lost wages and business interruption losses related to the derailment.  Affected residents are asked to bring purchase receipts and any other supporting documentation as well as government-issued identification and proof of residency, such as a utility bill. CSX will establish a mail-in process for additional expense reimbursement and will share that information as soon as it is finalized.

Residents with questions are also invited to call the CSX Falmouth derailment hotline at 1-800-331-4031.

CSX crews continue to work with area first responders, the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to safely clean up the site of this morning’s train derailment at Woodson Street in Falmouth and to minimize the impact to the community and environment. Woodson Street and Shelby Street remain closed to vehicle traffic at the train tracks. CSX began moving derailed cars around 9 p.m., and operations will continue through the night. Residents immediately next to the derailment site may hear loud machinery and other industrial noise throughout the night. As a precaution, air monitoring is being conducted at the derailment site and throughout the community. No air quality issues have been identified.

The CSX train was transporting 76 loaded cars and 49 empty cars from Cincinnati, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia. 24 cars derailed around 10:40 a.m., including four loaded cars of sulfuric acid. No hazardous materials leaked. Some non-hazardous materials were spilled and are in the process of being cleaned up. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation. We will continue to provide more information as it is confirmed.
