CSX Police Agents Thwart Human Trafficking Operation

January 11, 2023 - What began as a routine theft investigation last year by CSX Police in Nashville turned out to be a lifeline for several human trafficking victims.

CSX Special Agent Mitch Thompson, Technical Special Agent Glenn Moody and former Special Agent Jessica Morris recognized a perilous human trafficking situation at an encampment along railroad property and quickly took action to potentially save the life of a victim experiencing a medical emergency. Further investigation resulted in additional victims being rescued and provided with the support and resources they needed.

For their actions, the CSX special agents received an award for employing Recognize, Record and Report human trafficking protocols, as well as appropriate law enforcement procedures, to resolve a dangerous situation. Partnering with local authorities and other organizations, the agents helped bring about a successful outcome to the case.

The Nashville case was a dramatic example of the importance of CSX’s company-wide efforts to promote human trafficking awareness. A signatory of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking Pledge, the company promotes awareness through educational resources, training and special events, including annual observation of Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January.
