The Controller’s Group Leadership Development Program is a 6-month rotational training program aimed at developing the skills of future business leaders within the Controllers department.
The Controller’s Group manages the accounting processes for CSX and all subsidiary companies, which includes financial reporting to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Surface Transportation Board (STB), and other regulatory agencies. The department also handles accounts payable, customer billing, and payroll processing.
Rotational assignments will include a broad overview of the accounting and business operations, project management responsibilities, pairing with experienced management professionals, as well as participating in periods of high-intensity classroom training and self-instruction. Associates in the program complete project work as assigned throughout the Controller’s Group, with the goal of direct placement into an entry-level analyst or manager position in Jacksonville, Florida following successful completion of the program. Participants will also gain field experience through visits to CSX facilities and the Railroad Education and Development Institute (REDI) in Atlanta.

The Controller’s Group also offers summer internship opportunities for students who are still pursuing their degrees. Interns lead individual, value-added projects in areas related to accounting, financial analysis, compliance, technology or process improvement, and also participate in a group project focusing on innovation and process improvement. Each project includes a final presentation to management, including the VP/Controller and other executives. Interns also have the opportunity to visit CSX facilities and participate in career-focused training. Upon successful completion of internship, interns are considered for the Leadership Development Program.
