Making an Impact in Communities

On Track with Healthy Foods grant winner Conetoe Family Life Center’s mobile produce stand, serving North Carolina’s Nash and Edgecombe Counties

In 2016, CSX announced plans to develop a multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art intermodal hub and transfer facility in Rocky Mount, North Carolina known as the Carolina Connector (CCX). This major freight rail infrastructure project will create distinct competitive advantages for the region’s businesses and ports, while serving the rapidly growing metro-Raleigh area.

As CSX expands its presence in North Carolina, the company is working to be a responsible neighbor by investing in the vitality of Eastern North Carolina communities. Last year, through a national partnership with The Conservation Fund (“The Fund”), CSX helped launch the On Track with Healthy Foods grants program to improve access to fresh, healthy food options and nutrition resources to areas most in need in Nash and Edgecombe Counties.

By offering grants to community organizations that distribute fresh produce and perishable food, the On Track program seeks to enhance health and well-being of distressed areas in the Twin Counties.

In May, nine community and faith-based organizations were awarded grants to acquire equipment and resources needed to sustain food quality and safety.  Combined, these grant recipients sell, store, package, and distribute more than 1.7 million pounds of fresh produce, meats, seafood, dairy, and other food products annually to North Carolina consumers.

CSX is proud to partner with The Fund in support of the On Track with Healthy Foods grant program to improve access to healthy food choices in communities that are underserved. This national partnership with the Fund provides CSX an opportunity to effectively leverage its resources at the local level to address those areas in Nash and Edgecombe Counties that are most in need.
