< Back to list
CSXT's main line between Montgomery, Ala., and New Orleans, La., will be closed for five days, from Monday, March 15, to Friday, March 19, for extensive refurbishment and upgrades of track and other infrastructure.
Line haul service will be gradually reduced starting Saturday, March 13, in preparation for the maintenance blitz, and gradually restored over the weekend of March 20 and 21. Service is expected to return to normal by Monday, March 22.
The project will involve 15 tie and rail gangs and more than 800 employees working in shifts 24 hours a day. They will replace or refurbish 75,000 ties, 18.5 miles of rail, and embankment shoulders on more than 54 miles of main line. If performed under normal curfew procedures, this project would disrupt traffic over this corridor for 15 weeks. The plan to concentrate the work within 5 days will sharply reduce disruptions.
CSXT is continuing to put plans in place to mitigate, as much as possible, service disruptions for its customers. At present, most line haul traffic will not be rerouted. A one-time relief period during the curfew is under consideration. Trains will continue to operate between Brewton, Ala., and Pensacola, Fla.
CSXT will be working with customers to help limit the inconvenience this service curtailment poses. For further details as to what local service can be provided, please contact your local trainmaster or your sales representative.
