CSXT Train Size Capability Increased

Released: Aug 27, 2010

CSXT has recently completed the extension of the Hagans switchback track to allow expansion to a 110 car train size. Trains originating from the Cumberland Valley (CV) and KD Subdivisions located in the (Jellico-Middlesboro/Harlan Rate Districts) can now accommodate 110 cars when routed via Loyall, KY to Erwin, TN. Trains using this route depart Loyall, pull the train through and then push back when using the Hagans switchback, which is located near Smiley, VA. The trains then traverse the remainder of the CV subdivision to Big Stone Gap, VA. Between Big Stone Gap, VA and Frisco, TN, the trains are operated over the NS railroad via a joint CSX/NS trackage rights agreement, prior to connecting back into the CSXT Kingsport SD at Frisco, TN.

The following CSXT origins located in the JM and Harlan Rate Districts currently have the track capacity to load 110 car train sizes:

Alamo, KY
Bardo, KY
Brookside, KY
Clover, KY
Creech, KY
Hamilton 2, KY
Hignite 1, KY
Hilo, KY
Lynch 3, KY
NRG, KY
Resource, KY
Kopper Glo, TN

CSXT anticipates that additional origins in the JM and Harlan Rate Districts will expand their track capacity to accommodate 110 cars, so watch for future updates.
