Behind the Freight Move: Giving Tuesday

The railroaders at CSX deliver freight every day, but did you know we also deliver a helping hand and goodwill throughout the communities where we operate? And Giving Tuesday - celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving - is a day for all of us to kick off the charitable season, focusing on holiday and end-of-year giving.

Service Days

Our responsibility goes way beyond doing business with integrity. That’s why our commitment to our communities goes beyond our rails to help support developing youth leaders, promoting community service and supporting vital local programs. Learn more about a recent service day at a Chicago, Illinois elementary school.

Hurricane Maria Relief

After Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, CSX, a leading supplier of rail-based freight transportation in North America, and Crowley Maritime Corporation, a global shipper based in Jacksonville, Florida, were called on to help get relief supplies to the island. Watch the video to learn more and find out just how much a single intermodal container holds in terms of much-needed water and food.

Santa Train

For more than 70 years, the Santa Train has made the holidays brighter for the residents of Appalachia. In a holiday tradition like no other, the Santa Train travels 110 miles from Shelby, Kentucky, to Kingsport, Tennessee, with Santa and his helpers giving out more than 15 tons of food, clothing, toys and gifts at stops along the way. Learn how the Santa Train spreads holiday cheer.

FFA

CSX delivers agriculture products across the U.S. We also partner with FFA to deliver leadership training to grow future leaders for the agriculture industry and beyond. CSX is a proud sponsor of the National FFA Convention, where every year, 60,000 students gather for leadership development sessions and compete in events that help members acquire the job skills needed to succeed in the workplace.

City Year

This national youth service organization brings together young leaders who give one year of service to reduce student dropout rates by helping teachers and school administrators provide safe and nurturing learning environments. As the largest team site sponsor, supporting corps members in cities across the eastern United States, CSX also provides thousands of volunteer hours with the City Year Care Force team each year by painting murals, refurbishing playgrounds, renovating schools and planting trees across 23 states and the District of Columbia. These efforts are also supported by CSX-supplied containers, filled with tools and equipment. Learn more about City Year.

Beyond Our Rails

Rail is the most environmentally friendly, efficient way to transport freight over land. We’re committed not only to delivering freight but also delivering a helping hand in the communities where we operate. Over the last five years, CSX railroaders have volunteered over 113,000 hours.
