For more than 20 years, the American Red Cross and CSX have created a lasting relationship centered on saving lives. To help prevent, alleviate and address disaster-related damage, the Red Cross must be ready to respond at a moment’s notice. The capacity to mobilize immediately is possible only with advance planning, positioning and pre-investment in disaster services. Through generous financial gifts from CSX and its employees, unique in-kind support, and valuable leadership, CSX has been a steadfast supporter of the Red Cross, demonstrating genuine care for its employees and communities.
This education and awareness organization is dedicated to ending collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway–rail grade crossings and along railroad rights-of-way. Each year, Operation Lifesaver’s network of authorized volunteers conducts free programs on rail safety education for hundreds of groups around the country. Most are volunteers donating personal time to speak with such audiences as schoolchildren, community organizations, driver education classes, and professional truck and bus drivers. Operation Lifesaver also provides specialized training for law enforcement officers who investigate highway–rail grade crossing collisions, as well as first responders to ensure their personal safety when responding to a rail incident.
