Hazardous Materials in Virginia

Named cities denote locations of CSX
operating facilities, not specific hazardous
materials locations.

Most of the hazardous materials CSX moves are chemicals that are an important part of American commerce – for manufacturers, for businesses, and for consumers who use the products made from these chemicals.

In Virginia, hazardous materials make up about 6 percent of the carloads moved by CSX each year.

Safety is CSX’s first priority for every carload of freight entrusted to us, and every decision we make is designed to move those carloads from origin to destination without incident. Learn more about our safety programs and training.

This list illustrates the percentage of hazardous materials carloads by U.S. DOT hazard class that moved through Virginia between January 1 and December 31, 2015. Learn more about the commodities in each hazard class here: Hazardous Commodities by U.S. DOT Classification.
