CSX's commitment to safety defines who we are. Employee training allows us to provide the most reliable rail service to our customers while keeping our communities safe above all else. We work hard to instill safety awareness among our workforce through effective training programs, communication, continuous community engagement and collaboration with customers and peers across the railroad industry.
Attentiveness to workplace safety begins with CSX leadership and extends to each employee regardless of title, job responsibilities or geographic location. We foster a culture of safety that encourages everyone to act in a safe manner and consider the welfare of others.
Employee training allows us to provide the most reliable rail service to our customers while keeping our communities safe above all else.
Our shareholders, customers, employees and communities expect CSX to maintain a safe and secure network. CSX has programs and training in place to protect infrastructure and cargo in collaboration with government and law enforcement agencies.
We are committed to maintaining and improving our existing infrastructure and to positioning ourselves for long-term growth through expanding network and terminal capacity. Since 2003, our network investments total nearly $21 billion. In 2014 alone, we invested more than $2.4 billion to support core infrastructure – including rolling stock, track work, new rail ties and locomotives – and made strategic investments to support long-term growth and productivity initiatives. This enables us to further enhance the capacity, quality, safety and flexibility of our network.
Though we led the industry in employee safety in 2014, we are continually focused on ways we can improve our safety and accountability to our customers and stakeholders going forward.
