Newsweek Ranking Recognizes CSX's Leadership in Corporate Responsibility

December 9, 2020 – Newsweek magazine has recognized CSX as America’s top railroad for corporate responsibility and second among all U.S. travel, transport and logistics companies.

The magazine’s second annual ranking of “America’s Most Responsible Companies” listed CSX at 54, a leap of 115 places from last year and second only to FedEx in the travel, transport and logistics category. CSX ranked well ahead of the three other Class I railroads on the list. The ranking included 400 companies in dozens of industries, selected from among the 2,000 largest U.S. companies by revenue.

“We’re proud to be recognized as one of the nation’s most-responsible companies, which reflects our strong commitment to do right by our customers, employees, communities and shareholders,” said Nathan Goldman, executive vice president and chief legal officer. “We strive to constantly improve in all aspects of corporate responsibility, from safety and sustainability to diversity, social justice and transparency.”

Companies on the Newsweek most responsible list are selected based on publicly available key performance indicators derived from corporate social responsibility, sustainability and corporate citizenship documents, as well as an independent survey of U.S. residents.

Even during a global pandemic, the companies on the list “care about being good citizens and give back to the communities they operate in,” said Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s global editor in chief. “They share the values that we all prioritize, and that's worth recognizing in any year.”
