CSX Included in S&P Global 2023 Sustainability Yearbook of Top Performers in ESG

February 8, 2023 – CSX has again earned inclusion in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook as one the world’s leading companies in environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

The Sustainability Yearbook recognizes companies that are in the top 15% of their industry and have achieved an S&P Sustainability Score within 30% of the top score in their industry.

Inclusion in the yearbook is based largely on the S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), in which CSX has consistently scored near the top of the transportation industry. The company’s ESG scores for 2022 were more than double the transportation industry average in all three CSA categories — environmental, social, and governance and economic.

More than 7,800 companies worldwide were evaluated for the 2023 Sustainability Yearbook, and CSX is one of only three U.S.-based transportation and transportation infrastructure organizations to earn Sustainability Yearbook membership. Based on the company’s sustainability performance and other factors, CSX has also been part of the Dow Jones North America Sustainability Index for 12 consecutive years.

“CSX is proud to be recognized as a global leader in the transportation industry for ESG performance,” said Joe Hinrichs, president and chief executive officer. “We are consistently improving sustainability and helping our customers achieve their carbon-reduction goals by adopting innovative technologies and operating practices to reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions.”
