Update on Princeton, IN Derailment - 6/18/18 P.M.


4 P.M. UPDATE:

Emergency officials, CSX, and environmental experts have determined it is safe to lift the evacuation of residents and businesses near the train derailment in Princeton, IN. People can safely return to homes and businesses beginning at 4 p.m. CST today, and US 41 will reopen to roadway traffic.

This decision was made after reviewing the results of highly sensitive air-quality monitoring and closely consulting with safety and emergency management experts on site. These experts do not anticipate any adverse impacts to returning residents. Anyone with questions or concerns is welcome to visit the CSX Information Center at the Gibson County Fairgrounds (709 N. Embree Street, Princeton, IN), which will remain open until 8 p.m. this evening.

Environmental monitoring will continue as CSX and its contractors begin restoration efforts at the site.  The safety of the community and everyone working on site is our top priority throughout this process. CSX thanks the local first responders, emergency management officials, and Indiana State Police for their continued assistance.

CSX will conduct an investigation to determine what caused the derailment.
