CSX Completes Removal of Excavated Soils, Environmental Monitoring Continues in Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – August 18, 2015 – CSX continues to monitor the area surrounding the site of the July 1 derailment in coordination with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Water Resources Division (TDEC) under the Tennessee Division of Remediation Voluntary Oversight and Assistance Program.

Last week, CSX completed the removal of all excavated soils for permanent disposal. The soils have been transferred to a permitted hazardous waste facility and are being disposed of in compliance with environmental regulations.

CSX continues to monitor surface and ground water on a routine basis in coordination with TDEC.  The well water advisory remains in effect as a precautionary measure as sampling continues.

We remain in close contact with the City of Maryville and Blount County and appreciate their continued coordination as we work through restoration activities.

Community members who have been affected by the derailment can request an application for compensation by calling 1-877-TELLCSX (1-877-835-5279) or downloading an application at the following link: http://www.csx.com/index.cfm/about-csx/contact-us/blount-county-compensation-process/
