June 27, 2021 – Inbound Logistics magazine has named CSX one of its Green Supply Chain Partners for 2021 in recognition of the company’s commitment to environmentally sustainable operations.

Known as the G75, the recognition is an editors’ choice list of 75 companies that “go above and beyond to ensure their global supply chains are sustainable and that their operations are socially and environmentally friendly.” The editors choose companies that are “dedicated to developing and implementing best practices to ensure they leave a positive footprint on the world.”

The Inbound Logistics award is one of a growing number of recognitions CSX has received as a global sustainability leader. In 2020, the company earned “A List” ranking from CDP, an independent, global non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing sustainable business practices, for its actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and help increase corporate transparency. CSX was also the first North American railroad to align with the Science Based Targets initiative to work toward limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

The most fuel-efficient U.S. Class I railroad, CSX in 2020 became the first to use less than one gallon of fuel per 1,000 gross ton-miles. Between 2014 and 2020, the company reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 13.8 percent and set a new goal of reducing GHG emission intensity by 37.3 percent (from the 2014 baseline) by 2030.

Much of the progress has come from increased locomotive fuel efficiency through the use of technologies that optimize train handling, as well as network efficiencies that increase train length and reduce train stops and starts.

The company also has implemented sustainability initiatives related to solar energy, energy-efficient buildings, hazardous material handling and waste recycling — all aimed toward protecting the environment and moving toward a lower-carbon economy.
