CSX Responds to Hurricane Florence

CUSTOMER ADVISORY 9/25/2018: Florence Recovery Update

CSX service restoration is continuing on lines impacted by Hurricane Florence, with network operations expected to resume on all lines by the end of this week.

  • The Hamlet subdivision between Hamlet, N.C., and Columbia, S.C., will return to service Tuesday evening.
  • Service restoration on the Andrews subdivision between Dillon, S.C., and Andrews, S.C., is estimated for Wednesday evening.
  • We anticipate service restoration on the Wilmington subdivision between Wilmington, N.C., and Pembroke, N.C., this weekend.

Only the Lumber River, impacting the Wilmington subdivision, remains in major flood stage, although it is receding. The other four rivers being monitored by CSX — the Neuse, Cape Fear, Pee Dee and Black Creek — have receded below major flood stage and water levels are continuing to fall.

CSX appreciates the patience and cooperation that has been demonstrated by customers throughout the storm recovery process. Further updates will be provided as warranted. Intermodal customers should refer to Real-Time Service Advisories for intermodal-specific operational actions.

CUSTOMER ADVISORY 9/10/18: CSX Activates Operational Plan for Hurricane Florence

CSX operations is currently monitoring the path of Hurricane Florence and has made extensive preparations for the potential impact of the storm. The extent of the effect this system will have on CSX operations is not yet known; however, several regional operating departments are making tactical plan changes and curtailments to proactively minimize the impact to rail traffic. At this time, please be advised that any shipments traveling through the I-95 corridor will experience delays.

The Hurricane Action Plan includes, but is not limited to, the following precautions and actions:

  • Storm path monitoring has been initiated for locations in the storm’s projected path to determine any potential impacts and actions needed.
  • Precautions are being made to insure equipment in the storm’s projected path and the surrounding areas are protected.
  • Engineering is actively preparing areas that will potentially be impacted,  prior to the storm making landfall.

During this process, the company’s priorities are the safety of our employees and infrastructure, and meeting the needs of customers. Further updates will be provided as necessary, as impacts from the path and intensity of Hurricane Florence become known. Intermodal customers should refer to Real-Time Service Advisories for intermodal-specific operational actions.
