December 7, 2022 – For the second year in a row, CSX ranks first among all U.S. transportation and logistics companies in Newsweek magazine’s annual recognition of America’s Most Responsible Companies.

The ranking by Newsweek and Statista, a global research and data firm, is intended “to honor companies that actually mean it when they say they are serious about being good corporate citizens,” said Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s global editor in chief, in her introduction to the report. “Talking the talk is easy, but walking the walk is hard.”

CSX appears at No. 137 overall on the 2023 list of the nation’s 500 most-responsible companies, selected from among the 2,000 largest U.S. public corporations based on revenue. As the leader in its industry group, CSX achieved the highest score among transportation and logistics providers in the environmental category.

In addition to environment, the ranking evaluates companies on social and corporate governance concerns, providing a “holistic view of corporate responsibility that considers all three pillars of ESG,” according to the ranking methodology. Researchers based the rankings on their analysis of companies’ ESG key performance indicators and the results of an opinion survey of U.S. residents. 

CSX is recognized consistently as an ESG leader, both in the transportation industry and among all U.S. companies. The company is listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and is recognized on the CDP A List of companies addressing global climate change. CSX is also recognized as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the American Association of People with Disabilities and Disability:IN, and a leading employer of military veterans.
