October 17, 2023 – For a railroad, providing an efficient intermodal product is all about teamwork — with terminals, customers, ports, truckers, connecting railroads and internal partners. And at the center of this dynamic network is always a leader who can effectively manage its many moving parts — a leader like Dan Kistler.
Since joining CSX as an intermodal management trainee in 2013, Dan has risen through the ranks as an intermodal terminal manager to become a director of intermodal marketing, responsible for engaging with the wide range of players who contribute to growth in the vital intermodal market segment.
In recognition of his accomplishments and leadership potential, Dan has been named a Rising Star in Logistics and Transportation by the Jacksonville Business Journal.
Dan’s role requires him to work with the CSX sales team, terminal operations and rail service design to create and improve intermodal service offerings. He also interacts with other Class I railroads and short lines on joint solutions, and he helps plan CSX’s investment based on the commercial outlook. In addition, he develops internal and external communications about CSX’s intermodal business.
While Dan’s focus extends across CSX’s network and even across the country, he has had a significant impact on the local Jacksonville, Florida, economy as well. He works with the Florida East Coast Railway and Jaxport to support efficient movement of goods to and from the region, which has helped drive business growth. Dan also developed a new intermodal service offering to connect the Jacksonville market with Indianapolis, and he created new options for customers to move their goods from Jacksonville to markets in the western U.S.
