CSX Inducted into Climate Leadership Awards Hall of Fame

For its commitment to increasing sustainability and lowering carbon emissions, CSX has earned a place in the Climate Leadership Awards (CLA) Hall of Fame.

CSX entered the CLA Hall of Fame during the first-ever induction ceremony hosted by the Climate Leadership Conference Steering Committee in Washington, D.C. To earn the honor, inductees had to win at least two Climate Leadership Awards across multiple categories over the past 10 years. CSX is the only railroad recognized as a 2022 inductee.

Most recently, CSX earned a 2021 Climate Leadership Award for greenhouse gas reduction goal setting, which has established the company as a sustainability leader not only among transportation companies, but across American industry. Specifically, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions and The Climate Registry, which present the awards, cited CSX’s goal to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity by 37.3 percent from 2014 to 2029, which equates to an absolute emissions reduction of 2.5 percent annually.

“The definition of ‘leadership’ is evolving over time thanks to the ambitious actions and voluntary commitments of companies like these repeat Climate Leadership Award winners,” said Nathaniel Keohane, President of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) about the Hall of Fame honorees. “In the past decade, these companies, organizations, and individuals have helped raise the bar time and again–betting on themselves to succeed. Congratulations to these leaders.”
