Angie Williams Receives Railway Age 'Women in Rail' Recognition

November 4, 2022 - CSX’s Angie Williams has been named to the 2022 Railway Age Women in Rail honor roll for her contributions to modernizing financial-related systems, having a key role in CSX’s integration of Pan Am Railways and Quality Carriers, as well as leading the accounting on the recent sale of property and property rights in three states worth $1.2 billion-plus.

The magazine will feature profiles of Angie and other Women of Rail honorees in its November 2022 issue. Begun in 2017, the Women in Rail award program was created to recognize outstanding leadership, vision, innovation, community service involvement and accomplishments among women who are making their mark in the North American railroad industry.

As vice president and chief accounting officer at CSX, Angie has been integral to the company-wide integration of both Pan Am railways in 2022 and Quality Carriers in 2021. She directed a cross-functional team that worked through the employee transition of former Pan Am employees to CSX systems, ensuring uninterrupted benefits, reporting and pay, sales and marketing, operations integration. She has also had a key role leading the technology integration, preparing Pan Am systems for the January 2023 system cutover, and she was equally essential to the successful integration of Quality Carriers with CSX.  

Angie is also heading a cross-functional team to align the company’s accounting systems with industry best practices and leading process improvement initiatives and enhancements. In addition to streamlining CSX’s accounting processes and modernizing the company’s financial systems, she improved the payroll process for craft employees by shifting from manual to electronic data integration, resulting in more accurate pay and added visibility.

With 170 direct and indirect reports, she focuses on process improvement including automation and restructuring resources to allow for more balance and support. In the community, Angie has served on a wide range of professional panels, using her voice to advocate for women and people of color. She prioritizes employee development; mentors women in Finance and Accounting and others outside of Finance; started a coffee series to seek employee input. Angie is executive sponsor of CSX’s Asian Professionals for Excellence business resource group and participates on panels for the National African American Women’s Leadership Institute, Women’s Leadership Network Institute of CFOs, and the CSX African American Inclusion Group.
