Commercial (Sales, Marketing and Business Development)
The Commercial Management Trainee will be responsible for sales, marketing and account management. They will be trained to develop business and revenue for the company. They will have the opportunity to direct customers to the appropriate operations resources to resolve operational issues, and work closely with the marketing team to develop transportation rates and contracts to increase CSX's business. They will also be responsible for specific commodity markets. They will learn about the customers to develop business in the most optimal manner. Trainees will be able to analyze the marketplace to develop and maintain rail transportation rates.
After a training period of approximately nine months, the Commercial Management Trainee will most likely be assigned as a Market Manager or Sales Manager. Trainees will be assigned to a specific territory within the CSX network and relocation may be required.
Duties and responsibilities for trainees in the Commercial department may include:
- Analyze operating information for pricing decisions.
- Function as main point of contact for CSX customers.
- Develop account strategies.
- Portfolio management.
- Marketing and sales.
- Interaction with customers and business partners.
Requirements:
At minimum, a Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Business/Finance, Sales/Marketing, Economics, Accounting, Operations Research, or Transportation/Logistics. Applicants must have at least one year of relevant work experience. At least two years work experience in a sales/marketing or analyst role, management experience, or railroad/transportation/logistics internship is preferred.
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively, both written and orally, be comfortable making group presentations, have a record of accomplishment in project execution/management, and be able to lead and influence others without formal authority. Successful applicants should also demonstrate problem solving and judgment skills, the ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization and the ability to build relationships with business partners and customers.
