Commitment to Our Communities

CSX is proud of the communities where employees live and work, and are committed to supporting the people and organizations working together to make them even better.

Corporate Giving Strategy

As part of its commitment to its communities, CSX maintains a corporate giving program that supports charitable giving initiatives to promote civic responsibility and foster a shared sense of company pride in the hope of improving life in the communities we serve. Employee Volunteerism

In order to support and grow its employees’ volunteering efforts, in 2009 CSX established the CSX Volunteer Program, which includes a Dollars for Doers program and a volunteer website. The mission of the CSX Volunteer Program is to address community needs with strategic, focused and effective employee volunteer activities. The program addresses CSX’s two key stakeholders — employees and the community — while supporting CSX corporate, as well as employee-driven, initiatives.

CSX and City Year

One of CSX’s key community initiatives is its partnership with City Year, a prominent national service organziation. CSX's relationship with City Year is a prime example of how CSX’s employee volunteerism, focus on safety and financial support combine to drive positive change.

Trees for Tracks

The Trees for Tracks program is CSX’s pledge to plant more trees than it must remove to maintain clear views of tracks and ensure safe passage. It is rooted in the company’s concerted effort to improve the environment, promote volunteerism and enhance the quality of life in communities where the company does business. By planting trees, CSX is improving air quality, offsetting carbon emissions, creating noise buffers, improving wildlife habitats and adding beauty to the communities CSX serves.

Beyond Our Rails

CSX’s Beyond Our Rails  program is a coordinated effort that brings together all of the initiatives that benefit the people and the communities CSX serves. Beyond Our Rails is our commitment to make the world cleaner, safer and more interesting well beyond its rails.

The TellCSX Program

The TellCSX communication program was established to field calls from the public about its concerns. By tracking these issues, CSX is able to proactively address concerns in communities, as well as continue to improve safety performance.

Employee Disaster Relief Fund
CSX’s Employee Disaster Relief Fund (EDRF) provides short-term financial assistance to its employees and their dependents during times of dire financial need resulting from natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and earthquakes; loss by fire; and loss due to catastrophic illness or accidental injury.
