Major Sponsorships and Programs

Positively influencing the global community is an important objective at CSX. That is why our employees choose to work alongside organizations such as City Year, The Conservation Fund and Trees for Tracks, among others, to ensure we are doing our part to give back.

City Year

CSX is proud to be a National Leadership Sponsor of City Year, an organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service. City Year gives young people the skills and opportunities to change the world by making a difference in the lives of children and by helping to transform schools and neighborhoods

CSX devotes time and resources to these key City Year programs:

CSX-City Year Service Days
CSX works with City Year's Care Force to directly support the communities in which CSX operates by hosting Service Day events throughout the year. Service Days involve City Year corps members and CSX employees and vendor partners coming together for one day to provide an improvement service for a neighborhood, school or other organization.

Sponsored Sites
CSX funds 12 City Year teams, each of which is made up of corps members who go into the schools in their assigned cities to mentor, teach and tutor.

Safety Training and Education
With support from Emergency University, CSX provides CPR and first aid training to all City Year corps members. CSX's safety department also provides all corps members with a "Safety Tip of the Day."

Safety Ambassador Program
In each of City Year's 17 cities, one corps member has been designated as the Safety Ambassador. That person takes personal responsibility by conducting safety audits and assuring safe practices in all City Year facilities and at all activities.

Safe Place

CSX is a national sponsor of Safe Place, an outreach program that educates thousands of young people every year about the dangers of running away or trying to resolve difficult, threatening situations on their own.

This initiative involves recruiting entire communities to provide safe havens and resources for youths in crisis. Safe Place creates a network of youth-friendly businesses, schools, fire stations, libraries, YMCAs and other appropriate public buildings that display the distinctive yellow and black "Safe Place" sign. In many communities, the local transit system takes part, designating buses as mobile Safe Place sites.

Safe Place is the first step to help for any youth in crisis or at risk. This community collaboration program, operated by youth shelters and agencies that serve youths, makes it possible for any youth to access help at locations displaying the Safe Place sign. Learn more at BeyondOurRails.org

Trees for Tracks

Trees for Tracks is CSX’s promise to plant 1 tree for every mile of the 21,000 miles of track across our vast network. Not only does planting trees improve air quality and offset carbon emissions, but trees act as noise buffers, provide healthy homes for wildlife and add beauty to our world.

The initiative is being made possible, in part, by collaboration between CSX, City Year and a grassroots organization called the Alliance for Community Trees (ACT). Learn more at BeyondOurRails.org

The Conservation Fund

CSX has a partnership with The Conservation Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing America's land and water legacy.

Since 1985, The Conservation Fund has helped protect more than 6 million acres, sustaining wild havens, working lands and vibrant communities. It is the only major conservation non-profit with a dual charter to pursue economic development and environmental preservation. That means The Conservation Fund helps communities grow, preserve their character and save special places for the next generation – all at the same time.

The Fund’s skilled team helps partners such as CSX fulfill their conservation priorities, protecting and enhancing landscapes where Americans work, play and rediscover history. Learn more at BeyondOurRails.org
